The ghost dance or the Ghost Dance movement was new religious movement that was now incorporated in many native tribes. The Ghost Dance was a religious dance, that if performed correctly would bring the dead and living spirits together. The dead spirits would now fight on their behalf, bring unity, peace, and prosperity to the native people. The ghost dance was first ever performed on January 1, 1889 during a solar eclipse. This dance was performed by Wovoka, a shaman of the Paiute tribe. The ghost dance was supposed to end after the wounded knee massacre, but many religious leaders in the native tribes continued to spread it around.
